Information & Support

LESLA Alliance shares information, guidance, and signposting to support people through important and sometimes difficult moments in life.

Our aim is to provide clear, compassionate support  helping people understand what steps may be needed, and offering reassurance when things feel overwhelming.

The information we share is general guidance and signposting. We do not provide legal or professional advice, but we can help people find their way and feel less alone

When Someone Passes Away

Losing someone can be deeply distressing. Alongside grief, there are often practical steps that need attention, sometimes within a short space of time. Even with clear information available, many people find it difficult to know where to start, what matters most, or how to cope while grieving.

A Practical Guide

We’ve created a simple guide to help explain the key steps in the UK and to reassure people that support is available.

When Someone Passes Away

Bereavement Support

Bereavement Support at LESLA Alliance

Even with official guidance, bereavement can make information hard to process.

People may feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure about what to do next, particularly older people, those living alone, or those without close family nearby.

This is where LESLA Alliance representatives can help you.

We don’t replace professional services or provide legal advice. Instead, we offer time, understanding, and human support.

We can:

  • Talk things through at your pace
  • Help you understand what steps may need to happen next
  • Break things down into manageable stages
  • Offer reassurance and connection during a difficult time
  • Be your quiet companion by your side

Our support is grounded in listening, care, and respect, and is particularly shaped by our work with members of the Windrush generation, their descendants, and older people in the community.

If a loved one has passed away and you would like to talk or need support, please get in touch.

Official Guidance & Signposting

For detailed, up-to-date, and authoritative guidance, we recommend the UK Government’s official resource:

GOV.UK – When someone dies -  https://www.gov.uk/when-someone-dies

This includes information on:

  • What to do immediately after a death
  •  Registering a death
  • Using the Tell Us Once service
  • Funeral arrangements
  • Dealing with benefits, pensions, and official records

Other Information & Resources

Over time, LESLA Alliance plans to share additional information and signposting on topics such as:

  • Supporting older relatives
  • Community wellbeing and connection
  • Useful local and national services

Resources will be added gradually as they are developed.

Everyone’s situation is different. The information shared here is intended as general guidance and signposting. You may wish to seek professional advice where appropriate.
